Go
"Emphasizing Apostle Emmanuel Iren's mantra, 'The capital from God is "GO,"' we are inspired to move and run in the might of the spirit. Welcome to the inaugural edition of this newsletter! I'm JEWEL (pronounced JOO+UHL). I hope being part of this space brings positivity and impact to your life."
Welcome to 2024, a new year with 14 days behind us. You may have set financial goals akin to last year, albeit with different aspirations and perhaps unrealistic methods to achieve them. Some have already taken action, while others are still procrastinating. Recognize that aspiring to build your finances is commendable, but it doesn't stop there—knowledge is key.
Answering the commonly asked question among young people, "How do I attain financial discipline?" starts with starting small.
Guard Your Heart:
Avoid unrealistic expectations that subtly mount pressure. If you earn 15k monthly, setting a target of saving 500k by year-end or buying a high-end car is unrealistic. Guard your heart against external pressures, be selective about influences, and realize it's okay to start small. For instance;
When Miss A comes across online sellers offering a trendy jewelry piece that surpasses her budget, she opts to use her school fees to make the purchase. In doing so, she not only acquires the desired jewelry but also jeopardizes her education. This decision reflects a negative financial habit that may potentially develop into a recurring pattern. Alternatively, had she seen the online publicity and chosen to consider deferment or resist the temptation, her education wouldn’t be in jeopardy.”
Increase Your Income:
Whether you have a job or not, explore side hustles like freelancing. Leverage your skills or invest in learning new ones. Prioritize self-investment, and remember, the capital you need is to GO.
Budget:
Understand your income sources, budget meticulously, differentiate between wants and needs, and focus on necessities. Budgeting is a crucial step in building financial discipline.
Trim Unnecessary Expenses:
Identify where your money goes, curb impulse buying, and save towards significant purchases. Consider deferred gratification, and remember that your savings are personal.
Start Something:
The capital is "GO." Begin saving, even if it's just #200 weekly or monthly. Your savings are not a billboard; keep it personal until you choose to share.
Set a Target:
Prioritize your future by setting a realistic financial goal within reach. Strike a balance between motivation and challenge to avoid discouragement or burnout.
Get Financial Knowledge:
Read books on finance and explore available materials. Stay flexible, tune into newsletters, and keep learning in this era of abundant information.
Talk to God About It:
Engage with God about your goals and desires. Lean on Him, acknowledging that our efforts alone won't take us far. Seek divine guidance and assistance on your financial journey.
